CJ Group announced the appointment of CJ CGV CEO Heo Min-hoe as CEO of management support at CJ Corporation in a regular personnel reshuffle on Nov. 18.
The new CEO of CJ CGV will be Jung Jong-min, who had been CEO of CJ CGV Turkey.
Lee Sun-young, general manager of the Commerce Division at CJ ENM, will be the new CEO of CJ ENM Commerce.
These appointments set their sights on rebuilding the ONLYONE Spirit, CJ Group’s core value, in the face of internal and external crises facing CJ Group.
Most of the CEOs of major CJ Group affiliates have been retained. The management team has been reorganized around top talent to accelerate value-up across the group’s businesses.
The group also continued its focus on selecting talented young people by boldly appointing a person in his 30s as a CEO for the first time in the history of CJ Group.
CJ will maintain the current two-CEO system of its holding company, CJ Holdings, with the new CEO Heo taking on the role of CEO of management support and overseeing the group’s external affairs.
Kim Hong-ki, who has served as both CEO of management and CEO of management support, will take on the roles of the CEO of management.
Heo joined CheilJedang in 1986 and previously served as CEO of CJ Foodville, general manager of CJ Olive Networks, general manager of management support at CJ CheilJedang, CEO of CJ O Shopping, and CEO of CJ ENM.
Since 2020, Heo has served as CEO of CJ CGV, where he orchestrated a structural transformation in CJ’s cinema business and made an improvement in profitability amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Heo is the right person to lead external affairs and effectively support the implementation of the group’s mid-term strategies based on his understanding and experience across CJ Group’s businesses,” a CJ official said.
CJ will focus on increasing the competitiveness of its content business by making Yoon Sang-hyun, who previously served as head of CJ ENM’s Entertainment and Commerce Divisions, double as CEO of CJ ENM and head of its Entertainment Division.
Lee Sun-young, general manager of CJ ENM’s Commerce Division, will be promoted from within.
Lee joined CJ O Shopping in 2000 and served as head of the Brand Business Division and head of the Commerce Division at CJ ENM.
Lee has been recognized for achievements in promoting the evolution of CJ’s media commerce curation platform and discovering new product categories and brands based on the One Platform Strategy to boost CJ ENM’s competitiveness.
CJ CGV’s new CEO will be Jung Jong-min, head of CJ CGV Turkey. Jung joined CJ CGV in 2012 and served as a marketing manager and head of the domestic business.
Since 2020, he has overseen the Turkish subsidiary and restored its business soundness by reorganizing its business structure and operating it efficiently.
CJ Group also appointed a person born in the 1990s as a CEO for the first time in its history.
CJ CGV has appointed Bang Jun-shik, born in 1990 as new CEO of CJ 4DPLEX, a subsidiary of CJ CGV.
CJ CGV has boldly expanded the roles of young talents to lead innovation in the cinema business and global business expansion based on content competitiveness.
Twenty-one new management leaders were named. CJ Group selected talented individuals who showed outstanding results as the new management leaders regardless of position and age.
The average age of the new management leaders is 44.9 years, with 12 of them born in the 1980s.
“The new appointments were made on the basis of freshening up the atmosphere amid stability at CJ Group and showed that CJ Group never fails to reward a meritorious service nor to let a fault go unpunished,” a CJ official said.
“The group will continue to make changes throughout the year based on employees’ ability and performances with the principle of placing the best worker in the right place at the right time.”
