Mayor Song Ki-sub of Jincheon County has set ambitious goals, such as reinvigorating the regional economy, improving welfare, environment sustainability, and strengthening agriculture competitiveness. He also set out to boost the development of cultural and educational sectors.
He said his county will carry out the strategies for the second half of the publicly elected 8th local government without interruption.
In his New Year’s message, issued on Jan. 1, Mayor Song said, “I wish for all county residents to be full of love and happiness this year, which will be a rich year with all things being done wisely.”
“Our county had made more efforts in the operation of the local government last year than any time under the catchphrase ‘unmucheongcheon,’ a Chinese saying meaning a better tomorrow following withholding and overcoming of hard times,” Mayor Song said.
Looking back at last year, he said he felt a sense of heavy responsibility over greater regional development amid an unprecedented crisis.
Amid inside and outside hardships, Jincheon County made outstanding achievements last year, such achieving population growth 18 years in row, topping 1 trillion won in attracting investments for the ninth consecutive year, and hosting the 63rd Athletic Competition of Chungcheongbuk-do, and ranking 1st overall.
In particular, Jincheon’s consistent population since 2007, proves that the county spearheaded regional development wisely and is an outstanding center of Korea’s local governments.
Mayor Song said, “A rising population is owed to outcomes, caused by convergence of several factors, such as strengthening of the regional economy, expanding of job opportunities and improving of settlement conditions, not ones in one sector of the country’s administration.”
Mayor Song said, “Our county has established differentiated strategies to develop the district for population inflow and sustainable growth and implemented them systematically, and such efforts have paid off: continuously attracting of blue-chip companies, rising job opportunities and quality employment conditions as well as new changes and outstanding performances in the culture, tourism and sport sectors, the fields that had been lacking relatively in the past under growth-oriented regional development strategies, now in a balanced shape.”
Mayor Song proposed 2025 tasks, such as completion of a vigorous economic city, realizing of core values in a welfare city satisfying county residents, creating of a clean city with a pleasant environment, nurturing of an agricultural city with innovative growth, and construction of a city specializing in culture and education.
Jincheon County has designated the 2025 catchphrase “Gwamghwiilsin,” a Chinese saying meaning “its determination to renew itself and make steady and seamless preparations for changes.”
Lastly, Mayor Song promised to achieve greater prosperity by seamlessly and systematically establishing strategies on the operation of the county, and regional development.
