Shinhan Card Launches Discount Plan and Plan+, Based on Spending Schedules

Shinhan Card announced on April 21 that it has launched Shinhan Card Discount Plan and Shinhan Card Discount Plan+, which provide discounts of up to 20 percent according to the daily, monthly, and yearly spending schedules of customers.

The model analyzes the data of its 33 million customers.

First, Shinhan Card Discount Plan offers a time-based discount service (Time Plan) for the food and beverage industry where daily consumption takes place.

Between 7 a.m. and 3 p.m., customers will receive a 10 percent discount at restaurants and cafes that are frequently visited during the day.

Between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m., customers will be able to enjoy a 10 percent discount at convenience stores and on delivery apps.

In addition, Shinhan Card will provide the Daily Plan Service that categorizes the shopping, traveling, and living areas, where frequent consumption occurs.

It offers a 10 percent discount on supermarkets, online shopping malls and a 5-percent discount on transportation, such as gas stations, car sharing, and taxis.

Life areas are covered, including for overseas lump sum payments, hospitals, pharmacies, beauty salons, and online bookstores.

Shinhan Card Discount Plan also offers the Plan Day Service that applies a 2x discount rate to the first discounted transaction on the first day of every month.

It is applied once each in the Time Plan Service and Daily Plan Service areas.

Monthly Plan is a discount service that applies to monthly utility bills, digital subscriptions, and memberships.

Customers can get a 10 percent discount on utility bills such as apartment building management fees, city gas, electricity, and telecommunication bills, and a 20 percent discount on digital subscriptions such as Netflix and YouTube Premium, memberships such as Naver Plus membership and Coupang Wow membership.

They can also receive a 5,000-won discount on movie tickets once a month.

Shinhan Card Discount Plan offers discounts within monthly combined discount limits.

They are 23,000 won for purchases of 400,000 won to 80,000 won in the previous month, 42,000 won for purchases of 800,000 won to 120,000 won and 60,000 won for purchases of over 1,200,000 won.

Discount Plan Plus offers bigger discounts than Discount Plan.

In addition to 10 percent off premium outlets and 5 percent off parking in the Daily Plan service, its monthly discount service also offers 5 percent off fitness areas such as sports centers, tennis courts, and golf courses, and up to 5,000 won in reward cash back.

The Best-X Card Giveaway Promotion

Shinhan Card announced on May 15 that it will hold a promotion for customers who use The Best-X Card.

The promotion will run from May 2 to June 30. During the event, customers who spent 500,000 won or more with the Best-X Card and applied for the event will receive prizes through a lottery.

The prizes will include a 1 million won Grand Hyatt Seoul Hotel gift certificate, a 500,000-won Express Hotel dining voucher, 200,000-won Shinsegae Department Store gift certificates and Martina Gold Lounge passes.

In addition, customers who satisfied the conditions of the program but did not win a prize will receive 5,000 My Shinhan points.

Proving Its Leadership in AI Financial Technology with PFCT

Shinhan Card announced on April 29 that a paper on an AI technology-based loan risk management, which the company jointly developed with fintech company PFCT, has been included into the world’s most prestigious AI conference, the International Conference on Learning Representations (ICLR) 2025.

ICLR is the world’s premier conference on AI and machine learning, and belongs to the A Group in the CORE Conference Ranking, a global ranking of prestigious conferences in computer science and related fields.

The study focused on fine-tuning risk assessment to account for loan applicants’ decision-making in selecting a particular loan product which is not considered in traditional personal loan risk assessment methodologies.

The paper proposed an “end-to-end multitasking learning framework that simultaneously predicts the probability of giving loans and the probability of defaults.”
