KT and Palantir Exchange Tech and Marketing Capabilities to Spur Korean Industry
The goal is spurring the AI transformation business of the Korean industry

KT said on June 12 that Palantir Chief Revenue Officer Ryan Taylor visited Korea and executives and staffers from both sides discussed the direction of specific strategies. 

Palantir is a software platform developer supporting governments and companies¡¯ decision-making through large-sized data integration and analysis.In March, KT struck a strategic partnership with Palantir.

Both companies have shared technology capabilities through AI and data platform education. 

They also implemented joint marketing planning tailored for target industries. 

KT plans to raise its executives and staffers¡¯ AX capabilities in cooperation with Palantir and offer Palantir¡¯s solutions to Korean clients who want to conduct decision-making based on AI and data through upgrade capabilities. 

Initially, KT¡¯s will conduct projects in cooperation with Palantir¡¯s global engineers to have the latter¡¯s technology capabilities transferred. Both companies are now conducting a proof-of-concept (PoC) project to commission consulting services for KT¡¯s inhouse processes. 

That involves verifying the employment of Palantir¡¯s solutions for large-sized telecom data. 

KT also plans to operate an expertise education and qualification system related to Palantir¡¯s solutions. 

Both companies agreed to do business as exclusive partners, targeting the finance, such as banks and insurance companies. 

They plan to conduct joint marketing and business, targeting potential clients in non-financial areas. 

Both sides plan to implement differentiated marketing activities by holding AX seminars tailored to meet customers¡¯ needs after precisely analyzing each industry¡¯s current situation. 

Palantir CRO Taylor said, ¡°We¡¯ve offered innovative AI solutions in the Korean market through a strategic partnership with KT and we¡¯ll aggressively support companies¡¯ use of data by combining Palantir¡¯s technology power and KT¡¯s expertise.¡±

Senior Executive Vice President Ahn Chang-yong, head of the Enterprise Division at KT said, ¡°Our cooperation with Palantir is expected to be a core part of KT¡¯s strategies to implement AX to customer companies¡¯ intrinsic competitiveness, and we will practically achieve AX innovation to ultimately maximize customer companies¡¯ business performances by raising customer companies¡¯ access to Palantir¡¯s services and exploring and solving difficulties of business fields.¡±


KT Logs 6,845.1 Billion Won in Sales and 688.8 Billion Won in Operating Profit in Q1

KT saw its sales surge on the back of the stable growth of its mobile, internet and TV businesses and the continuous expansion of KT Group¡¯s core business portfolio. 

In a consolidated financial statement based on the Korean International Financial Reporting Standards (K-IFRS), KT chalked up 6,845.1 billion won in Sales and 688.8 billion won in operating profit in the first quarter of the year.

The consolidated operating profit jumped 36 percent year-on-year to 688.8 billion won on the back of the growth of core businesses, such as telecom and AX and partly reflecting one-time profit, coming from real estate distribution. 

The separate operating profit rose 1.6 percent year-on-year to 400.1 billion won. 


Mobile Business, Wired Business, Media Business all Increase

The mobile business saw its sales rise 1 percent year-on-year on the back of the expanding 5G subscription base and the growth of the budget mobile phone business. 

The portion of 5G subscribers accounted for 78.9 percent of its total handset subscribers. 

In the wired business sector, high-speed internet sales increased 1.3 percent year-on-year on the back of expanding Giga Internet subscribers and added service use, whereas landline sales plunged 10.5 percent year-on-year due to declining home demand. 

The media business saw its sales rise 0.1 percent year-on-year on the back of the expanding of IPTV premium pricing system and set-top box use. In a press meeting last April, KT announced KT Group¡¯s direction of the strategy of KT Group¡¯s media business. 

KT plans to boost the customer experience by introducing media AI agent to Genie TV in cooperation with Microsoft. 

KT also plans to reinvent ITPV business models by implementing AX in all processes, ranging from content planning to distribution with a focus on ¡°AL Studio Lab,¡± the new content AX organization.
