The chairwoman of Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s board of directors, Yoon Jae-won, visited overseas investors recently to hold an investor relations (IR) meeting. 

This marked the first time that a chairman or chairwoman of a Korean financial holding company had an overseas IR meeting.

According to Shinhan Financial Group on June 1, Chairwoman Yoon visited Hong Kong and Singapore for three days starting from May 27. 

Yoon explained the composition of the Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s board of directors and its plans for the future. 

Any concerns raised by investors during the meeting will be reflected in the operations of the Board of Directors.

During her visit to Hong Kong, she also met with members of the Asian Corporate Governance Association (ACGA).

At the meeting, Chairwoman Yoon shared examples of corporate governance improvements in various countries and exchanged opinions on the roles of boards of directors in building corporate trust and sustainable management. 

The ACGA is a non-profit association established with the aim of improving corporate governance, protecting investors, and enhancing market trust in the Asian region with about 100 investment institutions worldwide as members.

¡°The responsibilities and roles of boards of directors are becoming increasingly important,¡± Chairwoman Yoon said. 

¡°In particular, Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s boards of directors made a lot of efforts to advance corporate governance. It will lay the foundation for enhancing corporate value by boosting Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s management efficiency and transparency. Shinhan Financial Group will contribute to enhancing capital market trust through board operations that comply with global standards.¡±

Chairwoman Yoon is a professor at Hongik University. She was appointed as an outside director of Shinhan Financial Group in March 2020. In March last year, she became the second female chairperson of the board of directors in the history of Shinhan Financial Group. 

She is an accounting and management expert who has served as a non-standing member of the Accounting Standards Committee of the Korean Accounting Institute, an advisor to the Financial Supervisory Service, and a vice president of the Korean Academic Society of Association.


AI Training for Executives 

Shinhan Financial Group announced on June 10 that it has been conducting a six-week online and offline pre-training program on AI for 237 people, including the CEOs and executives of its affiliates, since May in preparation for the second-half management forum ¡°AX Shinhan-Ignition¡± scheduled to be held on July 1. AX stands for ¡°AI transformation.¡±

The forum has its theme of ¡°AX-Ignition, Shinhan¡¯s Future Leadership.¡± It will establish the direction of innovation and accelerate the implementation of innovation plans by utilizing AI technology across Shinhan Financial Group in response to structural changes in all industries made by AI technology. 

In particular, with a big increase in social interest in digital transformation and technological sovereignty, Shinhan Chairman Jin Ok-dong called for the private sector to take on responsible roles in leading industrial transformations beyond finance, and presented the strengthening of executives¡¯ practical AI capabilities as a top-priority task.

The online pre-training consists of a total of six sessions, focusing on internalizing a theoretical understanding and practical experience of AI through hands-on tasks. 

Before and after the forum, a total of three offline intensive training sessions will be held to share various AI-based business innovation and organizational management cases across different industries. 

In addition, on the day of the forum, an ¡°ideathon¡± will be held for executives to brainstorm ways of accomplishing missions by utilizing ¡°AI agents¡± in their work, reaffirming the group¡¯s commitment to strengthening its AI execution capabilities and leadership direction in line with changes in the financial industry. 

¡°Shinhan Financial Group defines AI not as a simple tool but as an active agent that works together with Shinhan employees. 

Based on this, we will realize customer-centric innovation,¡± a Shinhan Financial Group official said.
