The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT) and the Federation of Construction Associations (FCA) held a ceremony to celebrate the 2025 anniversary of Construction Day at the Construction Hall in Gangnam-gu, Seoul, on Aug. 27. 

Among some 1,000 participants at the anniversary event were MOLIT Minister Kim Yoon-duk, Chmn. Maeng Seong-kyu of the National Assembly Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, FCA Chmn. Han Seung-goo, and Chairman Yoon Hak-soo of Korea Specialty Contractors Association. 

The Construction Day anniversary event is the largest annual gathering in construction business circles. Construction site safety has emerged as the subject of top attention, as the government has mandated strong steps to prevent deaths at industrial sites in the wake of the recent occurrences of fatal accidents. 

In a speech at the event, FCA Chmn. Han said, ¡°We have to make strenuous efforts to eradicate serious disasters to restore the trust of the construction industry and take another leap. Construction circles should redouble efforts to dramatically reduce serious disasters this year with aggressive investment and concern.¡±

MOLIT Minister Kim said, ¡°The government will offer full support, such as expanding of housing supply, introducing of smart construction and overseas market entry so that the construction industry can overcome difficulties, such as low-growth and economic recession and make a leap forward for the future.¡±

Meanwhile, construction circles issued a resolution in the name of 2 million people in the construction industry. 

The statement said, ¡°The construction industry has played a pivotal role in the rapid growth of Korea and making the nation an economic powerhouse in the world for half a century, and as safety accidents and disasters threatening people¡¯s lives continue to occur at work sites, despite these achievements and the national standing, we no longer delay innovation in construction safety.¡± 

¡°We will abide by laws on safety and guidelines and join the government¡¯s policies on safety, and construction circles will put into practice safety-first values and spearhead efforts to spread awareness toward safety,¡± it said. 

A combined 111 orders and other government prizes were presented to those who have contributed to the development of the construction industry. 

The Order of Industrial Merit Service, Gold Tower went to Chairman Kim Sang-su of Hanlim Construction, which has implemented major state-initiated projects for the past 35 years. 

Two persons, including Chairman Jung Dal-hong of Sungbo Engineering, were presented with the Order of Industrial Merit Service, Silver Tower while President Lee Yong-ho of SG Shinsung Construction, President Jang Se-hyun of Dongguk Construction and President Lee Sun-gu of Daeheung Construction each received the Order of Industrial Service Merit, Bronze Tower.
