Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) and MR (Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen) of Germany joined forces to explore new global markets by utilizing the former¡¯s Substation Equipment Diagnostic & Analysis System (SEDA) and the latter¡¯s diagnosis system and customer networks with 183 countries.

SEDA is a system designed to prevent breakdowns by comprehensively analyzing equipment diagnosis data obtained via online preventive diagnosis and facility information, and determining real-time conditions.

KEPCO struck an MOU with MR, a German global power facility leader, to jointly develop and commercialize solutions to prevent breakdowns by checking real-time conditions of facilities in Regensburg, Germany, on Sept. 4.

Ranking officials of both companies, including Yeo Geun-taik, head of the Transmission and Transformation Department at KEPCO and MR CEO Wilfried Breuer, participated in the signing ceremony.

During the meeting, the two companies pledged their determination to promote cooperation and discussed ways of connecting preventive diagnosis solution technologies and commercializing them.

KEPCO has managed to prevent more breakdown cases annually through its own technology SEDA.

The technology has also saved more than 100 billion won since 2021 when it made its debut.

Of late, KEPCO has been accelerating efforts to explore overseas new markets, as the power entity has landed a project to verify the technology in Malaysia in cooperation with Korean heavy electric equipment makers.

MR, a global leader in On Load Tap Changer (OLTC), a core part of the transformer, owns customer networks with 183 countries across the globe.

The German company has been expanding its leverage in the preventive diagnosis sector based on these, and plans to ramp up cooperation with KEPCO under the latest deal.

Both companies strive to secure an upper hand in the power facility preventive diagnosis business in global markets, including Europe, by combining KEPCO¡¯s preventive diagnosis technology power and MR¡¯s diagnosis systems and global marketing networks.

A KEPCO official said, ¡°The agreement takes on a great significance since Korea¡¯s preventive diagnosis technology takes a first step in its market entry to Europe, and we will raise our global competitiveness by expanding cooperation with global leading companies in the future.¡±
