As Samsung Electronics struck a series of mega contracts with global tech companies, such as Tesla and Apple, business circles are forecasting that the Korean electronics giant¡¯s scale of investments into the U.S. semiconductor segment will top $50 billion (69 trillion won).
The global publication outlet Wccftech said on Aug. 10 that Samsung Electronics struck a contract on image sensor production with Apple in Texas after the Korean electronics maker signed a 23 trillion won foundry supply deal with Tesla last month.
With the signing of the contracts, Samsung Electronics¡¯ scale of investments into the United States are predicted to surge from an initial $37 billion (51 trillion won) to $50 billion (69 trillion won), business circles said.
In an disclosure on Aug. 28, Samsung Electronics announced that the Korean electronics maker inked a 23 trillion won foundry supply deal with a global big tech company. Soon, Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed the signing of the contract in an SNS message, saying that Samsung¡¯s new plant in Texas will devote itself to producing Tesla¡¯s next-generation AI6 chips.
The contract is to end on Dec. 31, 2033. Samsung Electronics¡¯ Talyor, Texas plant is expected to produce Tesla¡¯s next-generation AI semiconductors, using its 2-nano production process.
Macquarie forecasts that under the contract, Samsung will earn some 2.9 trillion won in annual sales, and its maximum annual revenues is projected to top up to 5 trillion won.
Apple said in a news release on Aug. 7 that it was developing the world¡¯s first new, innovative chip production technology in cooperation with Samsung Electronics at the latter¡¯s semiconductor plant. Business circles saw Samsung¡¯s chips to be outfitted with gadgets, such as next-generation iPhones.

Apple CEO Tim Cook visited the White House on the same day and revealed a plan to launch a new U.S. manufacturing program by investing $600 billion (833 trillion won) in the United States for the next four years.
To this end, CEO Cook said Apple would sign new contracts and ramp up cooperation with 10 companies across the United States to produce parts for Apple products, to be sold across the globe.
Samsung¡¯s increased investments in the United States are analyzed by business circles as part of the Korean electronics maker¡¯s strategy to secure an upper hand over its competitor - TSMC of Taiwan in the foundry sector.
Business circles predict that Samsung Electronics will boost investments in top-notch 2-nano production lines and exclusive advanced packaging facility development.
Wccftech reported Samsung¡¯s plan to build an advanced packaging facility worth up to $7 billion following the signing of its contract with Tesla.
