Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation (SLC) held the 2025 Dream Park Resources Circulation Forum at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, on Aug. 27. 

The forum served as an opportunity to share externally the operation and management expertise, as well as the research outcomes, SLC has accumulated in the resources circulation sector. 

The forum had a discussion under the theme ¡°Ways of Utilizing the Sudokwon Landfill Site for Resources Circulation¡± with government and company officials, as well as experts in attendance. 

SLC made presentations on a variety of themes, including sludge recycling, greenhouse gas emission reduction projects in Korea and abroad and the turquoise Hydrogen research project the corporation has been implementing. 

A discussion session, chaired by President Oh Kil-jong of Korea Resources Circulation Packaging Technology Institute, was attended by panelists, such as Prof. Oh Se-cheon of Kongju National University, President Lee Jong-yeon of Korea Comprehensive Plant Co., President Kim Deok-young of Green Wave, and Kang In-cheol, head of Incheon Techno Park Center. 




Sudokwon Landfill Site Management Corporation presented diverse themes on pilot and research projects SLC has been implementing during ¡°2025 Dream Park Resources Circulation Forum¡± at KINTEX in Goyang, north of Seoul, on Aug. 27.


On Korea¡¯s waste policy changes, Prof. Oh of Kongju National University said, ¡°The use of civilian incineration facilities in connection with a ban on directly burying life waste may be a transient alternative, but the step could lead to the delayed expansion of public incineration facilities, thus causing disadvantages to residents in a long-term perspective.¡±

President Lee Jong-yeon said, ¡°Installing of waste incineration facilities is a must task, and to this end, regional acceptance issues need to be solved.¡± 

He emphasized that waste should be recognized as public assets and public roles need to be strengthened. 

President Kim Deok-young spoke about greenhouse gas emission amounts of burial and waste incineration facilities. He stressed the need for technology innovation to raise the energy recovery rate. 

Kang In-cheol, head of Incheon Techno Park Center, said, ¡°The Sudokwon Landfill Site needs to have its burial gas and bio gas utilization expanded for both job creation and promoting regional growth and social benefits.¡± 

He emphasized the development of the waste landfill site as a future energy transition platform. 

President Oh Kil-jong said, ¡°The Sudokwon Landfill Site has demonstrated global leadership in burial, leachate and gas management sectors, and the site needs to be transformed into a mecca of no burial, circular economy and carbon neutrality. To this end, he stressed the evolving of a superb exemplary mode in Korea and abroad through test-bed for reutilization upgrade, resources and energy facilities with residents¡¯ acceptance, treating of harmful wastes and local governments¡¯ support.¡±

Chairman Kim Seok-wan of Korea Society of Waste Management, said, ¡°The Sudokwon Landfill Site needs to be outfitted with comprehensive and upgraded treatment system designed to recycle wastes, varying to materials, solid fuels and remnants, and provision of incentives is essential to raise residents¡® acceptance.¡±

President Ryu Don-sik of the Resources Circulation Research Institute at SLC said, ¡°A variety of solutions, such as proposals on resources policies and strengthening of public interests in waste treatment and securing of resident¡¯s acceptance and introducing of foreign advanced cases have been presented during the discussion session, and SLC will consider and implement roles necessary for transitioning to the circular economy by holding regular discussion sessions in the future.¡±


 
2025 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival to be Opened at Sudokwon Landfill Site on Oct. 23

The 2025 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival will be opened in the wild-flower complex area of Sudokwon Landfill Site for a 14-day run on Oct. 23. 

The annual festival serves as an opportunity to facilitate communication and harmony with neighborhood residents as SLC features a variety of events, such as large-scale autumn flowerbeds, diverse performances and other activities.

The wild-flower complex, the venue of the festival, is the former burned coal briquette storage yard that has been turned into an environmental attraction through collaboration among SLC and neighborhood residents. 

The complex has been reborn as the region¡¯s representative resting place, as it was selected on the list of the top 50 urban woods.

The 2024 festival attracted approximately 250,000 spectators, the biggest-ever number. 

The 2024 Dreampark Chrysanthemum Festival received a positive reception among visitors, who said they enjoyed the programs and diverse foods to eat.
