President Kim Dong-cheol of Korea Electric Power Corp. (KEPCO) said, “A core factor of the competitiveness of advanced industries is ensuring a stable supply of quality power, and to this end, construction of energy expressways is urgently required through institutional and process innovation related to the building of the power grid.”
In his New Year’s message delivered to KEPCO executives and staffers on Jan. 2, President Kim urged them to communicate with people with sincerity to induce public trust and cooperation in the course of timely constructing of the power grids.
President Kim stressed the importance of expanding earthing system infrastructure for renewal energy transition. “We have to ease renewable energy backlogs as soon as possible, expand infrastructure for local production and local consumption and build a solid renewable energy ecosystem through the implementing of the public sector-initiated off-shore wind power projects.”
He urged them to purse management innovation by utilizing AI. President Kim called for maximizing the operational efficiency of equipment and power grid networks by upgrading new AI technologies in the whole areas, such as power generation, transmission & distribution, and selling and creating new added values by combining power data with public data of several public entities.
President Kim called for spreading ‘a management regime prioritizing safety management’ to the whole of the power industry and solidifying KEPCO’s standing as a representative safety management-oriented company.
“We have to continue to explore new revenue resources by commercializing new energy technologies connected with our intrinsic businesses, such as next-generation power gird, DC distribution and HVDC, and through these, we need to reduce our dependence on power charges and build a solid revenue foundation,” President Kim said.
President Kim suggested the restructuring of KEPCO’s overseas business portfolio with a focus on eco-friendly and added-value businesses and the expanding of the winning of new projects in nuclear power, renewable energy, power grid, and ESS sectors.
As for the chronic debt issues, President Kim said that even though its financial conditions improved partly recently, KEPCO sees its yearly shortage money swell to 20 trillion won due to huge cumulative losses and more than 10 trillion won worth of annual power grid investments.
KEPCO Unveils Global Power Technologies to Make an Inroad into Global Power Market at CES 2026
Korea Electric Power Corp. is gearing up for exploring the global power market by opening Korea’s representative exhibition pavilion outfitted with traditional Korean aesthetics combined with advanced power technologies at CES 2026.
KEPCO participated in CES 2026, which took place at LVCC’s North Hall in Las Vegas from Jan. 6 until Jan. 9 and opened “KEPCO Pavilion.”
Under the theme “Power of Tomorrow, Discovered Today,” KEPCO showcased the competitiveness of the Korea’s power technologies by displaying exhibition content combining Korea’s own history, cultural narrative and future power technology. Spectators were given the chance to look at a one place at the top nine technologies, developed by the power company on its own, at all stages of power value chains, ranking from power generation to consumption.
The exhibition content was made in four stages — immersed LED real video, combined banner video, interactive kiosk technology summarizing video and extended QR code-based tech specification video.
Amid multiple crisis facing humanity, such as climate change and energy security, power’s roles and future solutions, being suggested by future power technologies, were delivered to spectators in a format of intuitive and symbolic storytelling.
KEPCO President Kim Dong-cheol said, “We’ve proved our technology power on the global stage by achieving a feast of winning five innovation awards for the first time in the global power utility sector at CES 2026.”
“Through displaying of innovative technologies, it has served as a turning point to let the world known the fact that KEPCO has grown into a full-fledged global energy solution provider beyond a traditional utility company,” he said.
