Korea South-East Power (KOEN) pledged to make 2026 a year of making a leap forward by solidifying a management foundation. The company made the commitment at a ceremony to kick off the 2026 business year on Jan. 2.
KOEN held the ceremony at KOEN headquarters in Jinju, Gyeongsangnam-do, with some 300 executives and staffers, including KOEN President Kang Ki-yoon, and employees of all complexes in attendance, which was streamed live via YouTube.
At his New Year¡¯s message at the event, President Kang called for the company to make a leap toward solidifying a management foundation.
President Kang said, ¡°Last year was as a historic year of reaping quite a lot of fruit with resilience of a Unified KOEN, but we¡¯re still facing rough waves before us.¡±
He emphasized ¡°filling them with rich content based on a strong foundation¡± and promised to realize ¡°2024 Future Forward Vision,¡± established last year.
To this end, President Kang stressed the Chinese saying ¡°jagangbulsik,¡± meaning endless efforts to achieve change and innovation.
President Kang presented his top five tasks – normalizing abnormality; developing manpower corresponding to a convergence era, building a foundation to make KOEN industrial disaster-free; successfully implementing a project to make a rebound in the wake of closing of Samcheonpo coal-fired power units; and accelerating the ¡°KOEN Energy New Road 2040¡± initiative.
¡°As issues, such as the restructuring of the public generation entity structure are likely to be discussed fully, all have to cope with changes without stragglers, and labor and management are untied to solidify management foundation with endless passion and execution like the ¡®Red Horse¡¯. Let¡¯s make this a year of laying a groundwork to become a global energy No. 1 company,¡± President Kang said.

KOEN Honored with Grand Prize at 2025 Compliance & Ethics Leaders Awards
Korea South-East Power has been recognized as a public energy entity that puts into practice compliance and ethics management under the strong leadership of KOEN President Kang Ki-yoon.
KOEN was selected as a top institution practicing compliance and ethics management, and received the grand prize at ¡°2025 Compliance & Ethics Leaders Awards,¡± hosted by the Korea Compliance Initiative on Jan. 30.
2025 Compliance & Ethics Leaders Awards, which made its debut this year, are designed to raise Korean companies and public entities¡¯ compliance management levels and explore exemplary cases of settling ethical values into a corporate culture.
KOEN has been praised for operating internal control regimes, such as evaluating and analyzing risks according to each task¡¯s features, implementing detailed strategies to improve core vulnerable areas, such as personnel management, contract and budget, and expanding educational programs for executives and staffers in accordance with KOEN President Kang¡¯s strong leadership.
The power company has been lauded for building and operating an exclusive in-house control platform designed to manage compliance and anti-corruption risks in a transparent fashion.
KOEN President Kang said, ¡°The awarding of the prize is owed to all executives and staffers who have recognized compliance and ethics as essential conditions for corporate survival and made joint efforts, and KOEN will be an integrity company example of fulfilling its social responsibilities by making compliance management the root of corporate culture.¡±
