TS President Jeong Calls for Making ¡®Future Mobility Safety Hub¡¯
TS is approaching a goal of becoming a ¡®Two Two Club¡¯

30(Thu), Apr, 2026

President Jeong Yong-sik of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) speaks at a ceremony to declare an accident-free integrated campaign at Seoul Railroad Station on April 30, 2025.

Traffic accidents have been reduced by 19 percent thanks to the so-called ¡°K-Safer¡± project, designed to predict and eliminate risks from driving via a combination of traffic-related data and AI.

Human errors caused by aircraft employees have been cut by 43 percent by expanding the exploration of field danger factors.

The speed of developing future mobility means, such as self-driving and urban air mobility (UAM), is getting faster.

President Jeong Yong-sik of the Korea Transportation Safety Authority (TS) said, ¡°We offer full support to verification management and regulatory relaxation for the development of E2E (End-to-End) self-driving technology whose driving is determined by AI from the start to the end. TS endeavors to strength the function of a hub to support UAM and build aviation and information management systems.¡±

The use of drones, emerging as one of the future growth engines, is outstanding.

In an interview with a vernacular news outlet, TS President Jeong said, ¡°Consumer-oriented delivery models on islands and at parks are being made in cooperation with local autonomous governments, and drones are used in earnest to reduce vulnerable delivery areas.¡±

TS carried out drone deliveries on 5,200 occasions in cooperation with 23 local governments.

This year, the drone delivery will be expanded to a combined 25 local governments this year.

These are among the achievements TS made under the stewardship of President Jeong, who took office as the 18th president of TS in October 2024.

Jeong spoke about his achievements and tasks. TS, established in 1981, is the nation¡¯s sole transportation safety institution.

President Jeong began his public office carrier after passing the 28th higher technology examination.

He held major transportation positions, such as director of integrated transportation policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and assistant minister in charge of aviation policy at MOLIT before he took office as TS president.

President Jeong said TS is approaching a goal of becoming a ¡°Two Two Club,¡± meaning 2 trillion won in budget and 2,000 employees, required to ensure safety comprehensively at least.

TS has raised the figures to 1.7 trillion won in budget and 1,800 employees this year.

TS has been supplying pedal misapplication safety assistance to prevent elderly drivers, particularly ones with taxis and small freight cars, from causing rapid acceleration accidents.

TS plans to raise the number of pedal misapplication safety assistance measures from 700 last year to 3,200 this year, he said.

Now that cars are shifting to become software oriented, President Jeong said that hacking concerns, once seen only in films, are on the rise.

Starting from last August, car makers are required to establish a cyber security management system (CSMS), encompassing the whole cycle of cars, ranging from the development of cars to scrapping.

TS is operating an ¡°automobile cyber security center¡± designed to look into hacking danger factors of cars and automotive parts.

President Jeong said TS is actively conducting the ¡°Today, Accident Free¡± campaign, containing its wish for making the nation a safety one.

TS has stressed six safety principles, including speeding, jaywalking, and wearing safety belts. Jeong said TS held a ceremony to declare the drive in April 2025 and the campaign will be spread this year.
