Dongkuk Steel announced on April 24 that it posted sales of 857.2 billion won, an operating profit of 21.4 billion won, and a net profit of 6.2 billion won in the first quarter of 2026.

Compared to the same period of last year, its sales ascended by 18.1%, its operating profit rose by 403.9% and its net profit increased by 153.3%.

Dongkuk Steel explained that it succeeded in improving profitability through the expansion of global exports of products such as rebar and structural steel.

Previously, the steelmaker strengthened its decision-making system by expanding its export organization and appointing a dedicated executive.

It plans to flexibly adjust the proportion of sales through exports this year in response to changes in domestic demand.

Dongkuk CM racked up sales of 494.4 billion won, an operating profit of 11.2 billion won, and a net profit of 10.3 billion won in the first quarter.

Its sales climbed by 7.4% compared to the previous quarter. Both its operating profit and net profit turned into a surplus.

Compared to the same period of 2025, its sales shrank by 6.1% and its operating profit by 25.9%, but its net profit inflated by 6.1%.

Dongkuk CM with a large proportion of exports succeeded in turning a surplus by enhancing its profit generation through price hikes and cost defense despite worsening market conditions, high tariffs, and stronger protectionism.

The company realized profits by reducing sales of low-profit items and expanding production and sales of premium materials such as Luxteel and Appsteel.

In particular, Dongkuk CM can expect to see the prevention of an influx of low-priced Chinese products and an increase in the use of high-quality domestic steel products for construction as the Korean government decided to impose provisional anti-dumping tariffs of up to 33.67% on Chinese galvanized and color steel sheets in April.

¡°This decision is significant in that it completes a protection system for domestic steel upstream and downstream ecosystems by imposing anti-dumping duties on cold-rolled galvanized color steel, following heavy plates and hot-rolled steel sheets,¡± a Dongkuk CM official said.

Introduction of Credit Payment

Dongkuk Steel announced on May 11 that its steel e-commerce platform, ¡°Steelshop,¡± has launched a credit transaction service by introducing the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund¡¯s ¡®Pay-One Guarantee¡¯ payment method.

In addition to existing cash and card payments, credit payments are now available at Steelshop. This service aims to enhance convenience for corporate customers that frequently make small-quantity, frequent purchases due to the nature of steel e-commerce.

In conjunction with the Korea Credit Guarantee Fund, Steelshop provides a one-stop service on its site covering the entire process from guarantee application to issuance and limit management. Guarantee certificates can also be issued on the same day.

The service operates on a credit transaction basis with a limit of up to 1 billion won per company. It also offers a benefit of a 0.3 percentage point cut in the finally calculated guarantee fee.

Proving Structural Stability of ¡®D-Mega Beam¡¯

Earlier, Dongkuk Steel Group announced that its large welded section steel (built-up beams) dubbed ¡°D-Mega Beam¡± has obtained a technical certification after its structural stability was recognized in a structural performance evaluation by the Korean Society of Steel Construction, becoming an industry first.

D-Mega Beam is a customized section steel product that Dongkuk Steel tentatively began producing in early April.

It is manufactured by welding thick plates into a section steel model using the latest equipment from Corimpex of Italy.

It can be custom-made according to customer needs without standardized specifications, setting itself apart from other products.

It was named ¡°Mega¡± because it is the only product in Korea capable of producing extra-large units of three meters.

Dongkuk Steel expects the large welded steel section market to gradually become more active through the certification of structural stability for this welded steel section.
