Driven by record-breaking business performances, Mirae Asset Securities has ushered in the era of posting one trillion won in quarterly net profit for the first time in the securities industry.
The milestone is the result of a combination of factors, including capital inflows driven by the booming Korean stock market, growth in the pension sector, strong performances by its overseas subsidiaries, and positive results in the proprietary investment (PI) sector.
Mirae Asset Securities disclosed on May 12 that it racked up consolidated revenue of 14.4287 trillion won and a net profit of 1.0019 trillion won in the first quarter of 2026.
These figures represent increases of 138.4% and 288%, respectively, compared to the same period of 2025.
Money flows driven by the booming Korean stock market played a significant role in this performance improvement.
As of the end of the first quarter, Mirae Asset Securities¡¯ total domestic and overseas assets under management (AUM) stood at 660 trillion won, an increase of 58 trillion won from the end of last year.
Mirae Asset Securities¡¯ pension sector also showed an upward trend.
Its pension assets stood at 64.3 trillion won at the end of the first quarter, an increase of 6.5 trillion won in just three months.
Notably, the combined reserves of Defined Contribution (DC) retirement pensions and Individual Retirement Pensions (IRP) reached 36.8 trillion won, taking first place in the entire financial sector in terms of reserve size.
Mirae Asset Securities¡¯ overseas subsidiaries also showed record-high performance.
Pre-tax profits for the overseas subsidiaries totaled 243.2 billion won in the first quarter.
Performance in the proprietary investment sector also contributed to the excellent performance.
By restructuring its portfolio around innovative companies at home and abroad, the securities company generated approximately 804 billion won in valuation gains.
In particular, valuation gains resulting from an increase in the value of overseas innovative companies such as SpaceX were reflected on the performance.
Meanwhile, Mirae Asset Securities presented its transformation into a global investment platform encompassing the brokerage of all assets including traditional and digital assets as its main growth direction.
The plan is to build a comprehensive investment platform in the global market that extends beyond the wealth management business to include digital assets.
To materialize this, Mirae Asset Securities will launch a global mobile trading system in Hong Kong in June, becoming the first Korean securities firm to do so.
It is also promoting the acquisition of a securities firm in the U.S. market where retail AUM amount to approximately $59 trillion.
¡°We expect the expansion of global capital inflows into the Korean stock market following the introduction of integrated foreign investor accounts,¡± a Mirae Asset Securities official said.
¡°This strategy will play a significant role in securing new revenue sources.¡±
