Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, departed after completing a colorful and productive five-day visit to Korea and pledged to build a robust artificial intelligence and next-generation robot ecosystem with Korean companies in early June.
¡°I had a very productive time with our Korean partners,¡± CEO Huang said in a meeting with reporters at the airport.
¡°There are endless opportunities for cooperation with Korean companies especially in the fields of robotics and AI infrastructure.¡±
He expects close future collaboration with the Korean industrial sector. His visit went beyond simple business meetings and served as an opportunity to reaffirm that Korea established itself as a key axis of the global AI and robot supply chains.
One of the most memorable moments of the visit was the surprise signing of an expanded cooperation agreement with Doosan Group, which has adopted the robot industry as a future growth engine.
NVIDIA highly valued Doosan¡¯s collaborative robot manufacturing capabilities and smart factory solution know-how, and agreed to deeply integrate its powerful AI graphics processing unit (GPU) technology and 3D virtual simulation platform, ¡®Omniverse,¡¯ into Doosan¡¯s robotics technology.
This approach involves creating a perfect digital twin in a virtual space and applying it to actual robot control.
The two companies will accelerate the development of next-generation AI-based autonomous collaborative robots to present intelligent guides that minimize human intervention in complex manufacturing processes or logistics sites and move by making their own decisions.
In particular, by equipping Doosan¡¯s collaborative robots with NVIDIA¡¯s autonomous driving and vision AI chipsets, they will be able to maximize their robots¡¯ ability to precisely perceive surrounding environments in real time and interact safely with workers.
Doosan looks to use the integration of NVIDIA¡¯s AI ecosystem as a stepping stone to further raise technological entry barriers in the Korean and overseas robot markets, including North America and Europe, and secure an unrivaled market share.
¡°Cooperation with NVIDIA, the global leader in AI, will be a groundbreaking turning point that allows our robot technology to take off down the road,¡± a Doosan official said.
Starting with informal communications with Korean business leaders near Hongik University Subway Station on his first day in Korea, CEO Hwang carried out a non-stop schedule, meeting successively with the heads of major Korean conglomerates such as SK, LG, Hyundai Motor, and Naver.
One of the most key achievements is the expansion of cooperation with SK Hynix for the supply of next-generation high bandwidth memory (HBM) chips.
It is reported that top-level commitments were exchanged to secure a stable supply of SK Hynix¡¯s high-performance HBMs amidst an explosive increase in demand for NVIDIA¡¯s AI GPUs.
NVIDIA¡¯s software cooperation with Korean big tech companies has also materialized.
The US tech giant agreed to establish a next-generation AI cloud partnership with Naver and SK Telecom by combining each company¡¯s massive AI models with NVIDIA¡¯s infrastructure.
Through this, experts expect that customized AI services will be provided by targeting the Asian market.
With Hyundai Motor Group, NVIDIA solidified the foundation for cooperation in the future mobility market by discussing ways to expand the application of automotive AI semiconductors for the realization of autonomous mobility and software-defined vehicles (SDVs).
Moreover, CEO Hwang did not forget to mention cooperation at the Korean government level.
Through a meeting with the Korean Minister of Science and ICT, the two sides agreed to actively participate in a national AI strategy promoted by the Korean government.
He also held mentoring sessions to lay the groundwork for technological ecosystems by meeting successively with officials from promising Korean AI startups and universities.
CEO Hwang expressed his deep admiration for the unique dynamism and immense technological potential of the Korean economy, saying, ¡°I am truly excited to create AI innovations that will change the future of humanity together with Korea¡¯s innovative partners.¡± He promised to visit Korea again before long.
