Chong Kun Dang will establish a large-scale bio research complex in the Baegot District of Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, to strengthen its research and development capabilities for biopharmaceuticals.
On June 11, Chong Kun Dang announced that it decided on a new facility investment to build the Siheung Baegot Bio Research Complex in a board meeting.
The investment amount is 392.5 billion won, which equals 39% of the company’s equity (1.0063 trillion won) on a consolidated basis as of the end of 2025.
The investment target is a bio research complex to be built on Research Site 3-1 (79,790.8㎡) in the area of 302 Baegot-dong, Siheung of Gyeonggi-do.
Chong Kun Dang was selected as the preferred bidder in the public tender for the site.
The company plans to boost its competitiveness in new drug development by establishing a research center and a demonstration center for the research and development of biopharmaceuticals.
The investment will run until August 31, 2028. However, the Korean pharmaceutical giant explained that the investment amount and the completion date may change depending on future changes in business environments and the project’s progress.
“This investment decision is for the construction of new facilities at the Bio Research Complex,” a Chong Kun Dang official said.
“The authority to determine related details and execute specific plans has been delegated to the CEO.”
This investment is a follow-up measure to a 2.2-trillion-won investment deal signed with Siheung in 2025.
At the time, Chong Kun Dang announced a plan to develop a biopharmaceutical research and development complex on the Baegot Research Site 3-1.
“The 2.2 trillion won mentioned at the time was the total cost for developing a biopharmaceutical product development complex,” the Chong Kun Dang official explained. “This disclosure reveals the cost of building construction.”
According to the company, the 2.2 trillion won includes not only funds for land acquisition and facility construction but also costs necessary for the entire project such as research and development expenses, equipment investment, and labor cost.
When approximately 94.9 billion won spent on the Baegot research site acquired last year is combined with this facility investment, the total investment disclosed so far stood at approximately 487.4 billion won.
This investment is expected to accelerate Chong Kun Dang’s strategy to expand its bio business.

Launch of ‘Esoduo Mini’ for GERD Treatment
Chong Kun Dang announced on June 3 that it has launched “Esoduo Mini,” a reduced-size formulation of its gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) treatment, “Esoduo S.”
Esoduo Mini is a product designed to alleviate GERD patients’ physical discomfort when swallowing medication.
GERD patients need long-term medication due to frequent recurrences.
It is a drug that improves convenience of administration by significantly reducing the size of its formulation.
This product has been proven to be pharmaceutically equivalent to Esoduo S 20/700mg and has improved medication compliance by reducing the amount of esomeprazole and sodium bicarbonate, the main ingredients of Esoduo S, by half.
Chong Kun Dang’s ‘Esoduo’ is a combination drug of esomeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor, and sodium bicarbonate, an antacid.
This drug maintains the gastric acid secretion inhibitory effect of esomeprazole while increasing the speed of drug action compared to single-ingredient drugs.
Sodium bicarbonate rapidly raises the pH level in the stomach, preventing the esomeprazole from breaking down in an acidic environment. It reaches peak blood concentration within 30 minutes of its administration, rapidly alleviating symptoms of GERD.
“Esoduo Mini is a product that meets the core needs of the GERD drug market, as it features a rapid symptom improvement and increased convenience of administration,” A Chong Kun Dang official said.
“Chong Kun Dang will further expand the market for digestive system disease treatments by strengthening the Esoduo brand lineup and maximizing synergies with other products.”
