Korea Western Power (KOWEPO) has been accelerating “speed management” to expand renewable energies and promote AI transformation in accordance with the execution of government’s energy policies.
KOWEPO plans to build future growth engines with a focus on building the Taean clean energy development complex and the operational innovation of AI-based power plants.
It is also pursuing institutional reform as a public energy entity by raising the execution of the whole of management, ranging from safety to financial affairs and operation innovation.
KOWEPO said on July 13 that it held the “One Heart Workshop” with KOWEPO managers, such as department heads or higher, including President Lee Jung-bok, at Benikia Hotel in Seosan, Chungcheongnam-do, from July 10 to 11.
The workshop was designed to look into strategies to execute the government’s major energy policies, such as expanding of renewable energies and AI transformation and discuss pending major management issues to cope with outside and inside management condition changes.
Participants focused on discussing ways of expanding renewal energy projects in conjunction with the government’s energy transition policies.
Participants shared strategies to expand carbon-free power generation resources, such as photovoltaic power and off-shore wind power. A particular focus is the Taean Clean Energy Development Complex, which is now getting under way.
They also discussed the government’s first renewable energy master plan of securing renewal energy facility capacity of 13.9GW by the year 2040.
The workshop also covered AI transformation strategies. KOWEPO management discussed ways of using physical AI to improve power plant safety management, equipment maintenance and operational efficiency, expanding generative AI and building a work-oriented AI platform, and accelerating digital transformation in the power generation industry.
In particular, KOWEPO plans to raise productivity and safety by using AI at the whole of operating power generation equipment, such as AI-based predictive maintenance and equipment problem diagnosis, as well as field safety management.
KOWEPO examined the 2025 management evaluation outcome analysis and 2026 response strategies, strengthening field-oriented safety management, securing financial soundness, improving staffers’ morale and work immersion, expanding integrity culture and improving organizational culture.
The power company plans to review improvement tasks worked out by the workshop and reflect them to the whole of management.
KOWEPO President Lee Jung-bok said, “Renewable energy and AI transformation are core tasks that will [secure] the competitiveness of KOWEPO’s future, and ranking officials are advised to speedily carry out the government’s policies based on their collective intelligence and execution power and ramp up future growth foundation.”
The workshop is evaluated to take a strategic perspective of shifting a public entity’s management paradigm beyond simply executing the government’s policies.
As the government has implemented national major policies, such as carbon neutrality and expanded renewable energy and the development of the AI industry, public entities are required to transit the operation of power generation equipment and energy supply methods into a digitalized one.
KOWEPO Launches Mobile Communication App ‘We Do Eco’ for Confirming Major Environment Information
Korea Western Power (KOWEPO) has become the nation’s first power company to present a new public communication model of the climate change era by transparently divulging real-time environment information on the operation of power plants through a mobile app.
On July 14, KOWEPO released the mobile communication app “We Do Eco” to confirm major environment information of power plants with ease.
“We Do Eco” uses the first two letters of its English name, “Western Power,” to indicate the power company’s determination to put environmental values into practice and transparently share information on the processes of operating power plants.
