HD Hyundai Oilbank launched a drive to capture the hydrogen mobility lubricant market by developing Korea’s first engine oil for hydrogen engines and supplying it to commercial vehicle manufacturers.
On Aug. 11, the company announced that it had recently supplied Hydrogen Internal Combustion Engine (XTeer H2-ICE), an engine oil specifically designed for hydrogen internal combustion engines, to hydrogen commercial vehicle manufacturers, including Tata Daewoo.
HD Hyundai Oilbank began developing lubricant technology for hydrogen internal combustion engines in 2023 and completed both product development and performance verification in 2025.
Compared to conventional internal combustion engines, hydrogen engines run at higher combustion temperatures.
Moisture generated during the combustion process can lead to engine wear and the degradation of oil performance.
To address these characteristics, HD Hyundai Oilbank independently developed three core technologies: engine protection technology, moisture control technology, and combustion deposit inhibition technology.
Along with electric vehicles and hydrogen fuel cells, hydrogen internal combustion engines are drawing much attention as eco-friendly power sources capable of replacing diesel engines in the commercial vehicle and heavy-duty transport equipment sectors.
They are expected to see expanded adoption in the global commercial vehicle market thanks to advantages such as the ability to utilize existing internal combustion engine production infrastructure and short refueling times.
“We have secured technology for lubricants for hydrogen internal combustion engines through independent R&D and reached the commercialization stage,” an HD Hyundai Oilbank official said.
“We will continue to expand our high-value-added lubrication solutions targeting the global market to proactively respond to changes in the future mobility sector.”
Meanwhile, HD Hyundai is expanding the development of hydrogen engines and related technologies, including plans to mass-produce hydrogen engines for trucks through HD Hyundai Construction Equipment.
In line with this, HD Hyundai Oilbank is strengthening its lubricant portfolio to cater to conventional internal combustion engines, hydrogen internal combustion engines, and electric vehicles alike.
Launch of CarZen Lounge for Premium Gasoline Customers
HD Hyundai Oilbank announced on July 13 that it launched “CarZen Lounge,” a new digital service for customers who use premium gasoline.
CarZen Lounge is a new service featured within “Car&,” HD Hyundai Oilbank’s car-life platform app.
It offers tailored benefits for customers who use “CarZen” (premium gasoline) and “Ultra CarZen” (ultra-premium gasoline).
Through the app, customers can check their refueling histories and bonus points as well as participate in exclusive racing game events.
This service was introduced to enhance satisfaction and provide various benefits to customers using premium fuels.
Customers who refuel with premium gasoline can access CarZen Lounge via the Car& app and earn up to 4 additional points per liter, depending on the refueling amount.
Customers who spend 50,000 won or more on fuel receive a pass to participate in the racing game.
Game participants can win various prizes including a one-month trial pass for the “Gas Station Pass Premium,” coupons for premium gasoline, and bonus points.
HD Hyundai Oilbank held a promotion throughout July. Customers who refueled with premium gasoline at HD Hyundai Oilbank stations by July 31 entered the event via the “Carzen Lounge” to give participants premium gasoline coupons.
“CarZen Lounge is a service designed to provide customers who use premium gasoline with a differentiated digital experience and tangible benefits,” an HD Hyundai Oilbank official said.
“We will introduce various tailored events so that more customers will be able to enjoy premium fuels and continue to choose them.”
