Gyeonggi Province Boasts of Korean Folk Village, Botanical Gardens and Imjinkak Among Its Tourism Programs
The province also has royal tombs, Buddhist temples and remains of ancient castles

Gyeonggi Province has a string of tour programs for Tourism Week. One of the tour programs is named the Pine Nut Fragrance Forest Healing with the main content being the Pine Nut Forest on Yeonin Mountain and the Ecological Conditions at the Yongchu Valley enjoying a jazz festival, designed for tourists from their 20s to their 50s.

The daily course starts with the Kapyong Road, the Yeonin Mountain Forest Roads, the Guide Office for Exploration, Tour of the Forest Following Sorit Road, the Healing Program at the old Slash and Burn fields, the Jara Island/Ewha Island, and the Campground at Jara Island where the 2014 international jazz festival is scheduled.

Another tour course is a bike tour heading into what looks like a watercolor painting that includes the natural beauty around the southern areas of the Han River for bike riders among friends, lovers, and hobby club members. 



Everland Festival



The course starts with the Paldang River Bridge, the North Han River Bridge, the Dumul Head, the Yangsu Bridge and the Ipo Weir, the Yeosu Weir, and the Shinruk Temple. The tourists will be able to attend the 26th Yeoju Pottery Festival and the 3rd Yeoju Pottery Plates Breaking Race while touring the course.

A tour to search for the history of the Korean Peninsula through textbooks is the name for another tour course prepared by the province. The tourists will learn ancient Korean history, the Koryo Kingdom, and the Joseon Dynasty on a tour course that is good for primary school students to tour with their families. The daily tour starts with the Hiam Historic Site Museum, the Yangju Byolsandae Play, a performance of the mask dance, the Songam Space Center, the Chang Wookjin Fine Arts Museum/Janghung Sculpture Museum, the Yeonchon Jeonkok-ri Historic Remains, the Jeonkik Pre-history Museum, Sunguijon, and the Royal Tomb of King Kyungsoon.

Peaceful World Way Following the Color of Autumn is the name of another tour course designed for people from their 40s to their 60s, especially couples. The daily tour starts from Sunguijon, the Peace World Way 11 trekking courses including the 2014 Peace Walk Event and bicycle tour course, and the Imjin River Water Bird Roam Land for camping. Events include the Walking on the Jusangjol Way by the Imjin River with one won donated when walkers covered 10 meters and volunteer students given three hours of voluntary work credit. A special event for bike riding along the DMZ Peace Road on the Cosmos Road along the Chatan River in Yoncheon, Gyeonggi Province.

Events and Festivals:

The 26th Yeoju Pottery Festival and the 3rd Yeoju Pottery Plate Breaking Race scheduled from Sept. 20 to Oct. 12 at Shinrok Temple to include a pottery exhibition, sale, performance and experiencing.

The 28th Dasan Culture Festival in South Namyang from Sept. 27-28 to include the presentation of Dasan Award, the Street Theater and the Theater for Experiencing the History and Physical Experience Program.

The Herb Village in Buksim-ri, Yoncheon, Gyeonggi Province, is as large as 15,000 pyeong in land with lavender flowers growing in around 4,000 pyeong and all kinds of herbs planted in land with some 100 pyeong in space including some 80 kinds of wild flowers in the Wild Flower Land and diverse plants growing in its spacious land. The visitors can buy all kinds of herb products like herb teas, herb body products and instruments to use herbs at the shopping center at the village. They can also taste all kinds of foods made with herbs grown at the village at an Italian restaurant and a cafe offering all kinds of beverages made with herbs including tea. The village also runs Studio Noum where pottery is made and on exhibit.

The province also boasts the Suwon Hwasung Castle, which has been registered as the World Cultural Assets, a historic legacy that shows the ancient Korean architectural prowess and a source of immense pride for all Koreans. The remainder of the castle is 5 km long and 6.2 meters high.

The Imjinkak Peace World is well known for its 3,000 pinwheels, which always shakes along with the wind like dancing. The viewer deck stands on the Imjin River that flows along the border dividing the two Koreas and many people who fled from North Korea gather at the viewing deck house to pray for the unification of the divided Koreas and the safety of their families and relatives left behind in North Korea.

The Korean Folk Village is an outdoor folk arts facility that shows the ancient way that the Koreans lived in the past with models of some 270 thatched-roofed houses and some 16,000 household goods including kitchen utensils used in the olden times. The folk village has often been used as the location spots for movie makers.

The province also has the Sanjeong Lake, the Pocheon Art Valley in Pocheon, the Dumul Head in Yangpyeong, so named as the two rivers, the North Han River and the stream of water flowing down from Mt. Kumgang in North Korea meet to flow into the Han River.

The Morning Calm Arboretum in Kapyeong, which includes around 20 gardens full of exotic plants and trees including the House in Native Town Garden, the Herb Garden and Eden Garden, to name some.

There also is the Petite Garden, styled after a French-style garden with a number of French-style residential houses. The Shinruk Temple is a Buddhist temple
