LS Cable & System showcased its latest products, including the thinnest-ever 500MW power transmission cable in the world, at the CIGRE 2018, which took place in Paris from Aug. 26 until Aug. 31.
The 500MW power transmission cable is the highest voltage underground cable LS that has so far been commercialized. LS Cable & System has reduced the diameter of the cable products more than 5 percent compared to conventional products, making them easy to produce and deliver.
It is a measure of technology in the cable industry on how to reduce the diameter while increasing power transmission capacity.
Established in 1921, CIGRE (Conseil International des Grands Reseaux Electriques) is an international organization leading technology development in cooperation with about 1,100 member companies, universities and research institutions in the electric and energy sectors from 92 countries.
CIGRE holds a biannual general assembly and an exhibition in which related industry and academic circles get together to share the latest technologies and research outcomes.
Attracting keen attention from spectators were underground cable products and the high voltage direct circuit cable certified in the world LS Cable & System displayed during the exhibition.
LS Cable & System completed a long-term reliability test of its 500 kV DC cable at the stewardship of the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute for six months from October last year. After the institute officially recognized the quality of the HVDC cable technology, LS Cable & Systems can now export it without any other tests.
Five European and Japanese companies ,as well as LS Cable & System, own HVDC cable technologies, but LS Cable & System has become the first company to have HVDC cables certified by a certification institution. HDVC is a technology that can transmit power from districts with lower power generation unit prices to areas with higher power generation unit prices. Of late, HDVC emerges as a key technology of the Northeast Super Grid Scheme to connect Korean, Japanese, Russian, and Chinese power grids.
LS Cable & System CEO Myung Roe-hyun, who participated in the CIGRE 2018. The CIGRE general assembly served as an opportunity for LS Cable & System to be recognized as a global cable leader by industry experts by showcasing the latest technologies only three to four companies in the world now own.
LS Cable & System Wins Deal to Export Undersea Cables to Malaysia
LS Cable & System is exporting undersea cables to Malaysia. It is the first time a Korean wire and cable maker will enter the Malaysian market.
LS Cable & System said on Sept. 4 the company signed a contract to supply super-high voltage undersea cables worth 40 billion won to Malaysia's state-run electricity company Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB).
Under the deal, LS Cable & System will lay super-high-voltage submarine cables connecting the northern state of Perlis and the island of Langkawi by September 2019. If the project is completed, power supply to the island will be redoubled, an LS Cable & System official said.
LS Cable & System Wins Large Contract in Australia
LS Cable & System signed a large contract with Western Power of Australia to supply power cables.
This is the largest contract won by a Korean cable manufacturer in Australia. It is a significant achievement for LS Cable & System to be listed as a preferred supplier within only two years of establishing a subsidiary in the country in 2016.
In Australia, the demand for power cables necessary for resource development industries and new and renewable energy power generation, such as wind and solar power generation, is on the rise.
LS Cable & System succeeded in winning the contract by securing both price and quality competitiveness through its Vietnamese production subsidiary of LS Cable & System Asia.
