The Suh Kyung-bae Science Foundation selected four young scientists of the Year for exploring new research activities in the life science field, AmorePacific said on Sept. 19.
The Suh Kyung-bae Science Foundation is a non-profit foundation, established with a 300 billion won fund, contributed by AmorePacific Chairman Suh Kyung-bae.
The foundation has a goal of contributing to humanity through the cultivation of creative, young scientists and the development of the life science sector.
Fourteen scientists have been selected since 2017, and each has been offered with a maximum of 2.5 billion won for five years.
The awardees this year are Prof. Park Joo-hong of Seoul National University Life Science Department, Prof. Yoon Ki-joon of KAIST Life Science Department, Prof. Lee Yoo-ri of Seoul National University Life Science Department, and Prof. Lee Eun-jung of Harvard University Medical School.
An awards ceremony took place at the AmorePacific headquarters in Yongsan, Seoul, on Sept. 18.
AmorePacific Chairman Suh Kyung-bae said, “The Suh Kyung-bae Science Foundation wishes for being in keeping with the footsteps of scientists going for a high goal of creative and useful science.”
The foundation will support young scientists’ research wishing for their great achievements and honor, he added.

AmorePacific celebrated the 74th anniversary of its establishment.
In his commemorative speech, AmorePacific Chairman Suh stressed customer-oriented management, acceleration of global expansion, sustainability management, and creation of a happy workplace. He called for “enjoying changes and braving challenges.”
About 450 people, including AmorePacific executives and staff members, cooperative company officials, and family members of award winners, participated in the anniversary event.
AmorePacific Chairman Suh said, “(AmorePacific) should be a company that keeps customers in front and center endless down the road.”
“(AmorePacific) has to make innovative products customers want and offer experiences others cannot find and achieve digitalization corresponding to customers’ hearts,” he said.
“The Asian market will emerge as the greatest driving force that will lead the global cosmetics market for the next five years,” Chairman Suh said.
He urged them to accelerate growth China, ASEAN, and Indian markets that keep on growing. He also called for active pursuit of eco-friendly consumption and production and making AmorePacific an entity that can grow with individuals and be worthwhile working together.
