Daewoo E&C won successive mega projects in Korea and abroad recently, raising hope for the company’s mid- and long-term growth.

Sources with the construction industry said on Nov. 26 that Daewoo E&C was selected as a preferred negotiator from the private sector in a public contest involving a Han Riverside urban development project in Guri by a consortium led by Korea Development Bank (KDB).

The project calls for constructing a smart city in the Topyeong-dong area in Guri, covering 1.5 million sq. meters at a cost of 3.2 trillion won. About 8,000 rental apartment and public housing units will be built in the area, as well as urban infrastructure.

In May, Daewoo E&C landed a $4.2 billion project to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant in Nigeria with a consortium of partners including Saipem of Italy and Chiyoda of Japan.

The Korean contractor is responsible for the EPC of the LNG Train 7 project, with a 40 percent stake, and its share stands at 2.066.9 trillion won.

Daewoo E&C has finished at least 70 projects since 1978 when the contractor first entered the African country. The Korean contractor participated in the previous Train 1 to 6 projects in Bonny Island from 1997 to 2004.

Daewoo E&C’s ‘Prugio’ Wins 2020 Good Design Awards

Daewoo E&C’s apartment brand “Prugio” won eight prizes at the 2020 Good Design Awards ceremony on Nov. 19. The brand’s eight entries run away with a KIPO commissioner’s prize, two KIDP president’s prizes and five good design prizes.

Good Design Awards, hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy and the Korea Institute of Design Promotion (KIDP), are the nation’s top-tier design awards.

In March 2013, Daewoo E&C became the first contractor to win the Good Design Awards. The contractor won the Good Design Awards this year for the second consecutive year.

The brand’s entry, “Prugio Brand Renewal and Master Planning,” was presented with the KIDP president’s prize, the bronze award.

The brand renewal was evaluated for bringing about the overall innovation of the product like landscape and community, not just change of the brand identity.

KIPO commissioner’s prize of 2020 Good Design Awards went to “Bewon,” a landscape space of “Godeok Gracium”, a landmark apartment complex in Gangdong-gu, Seoul.
