Dongkuk Steel Aims to Post 2 Trillion Won in Color Steel Plate Sales by 2030

Dongkuk Steel, nurturing the color steel business, aims to chalk up 2 trillion won in sales in the sector by 2030. The steelmaker is seeking to explore foreign color steel markets.

Dongkuk Steel Vice Chairman Jang Se-wook said in a meeting with reporters at Dongkuk Steel headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul, on Nov. 8, “We’ll raise the color steel production capacity from current 850,000 tons to 1 million tons in 2030.” It was also the 10th anniversary of its brand Luxsteel.

Vice Chmn. Jang introduced “DK Color Vision 2030,” Dongkuk Steel’s future color steel production strategies. 

Luxsteel is Dongkuk Steel’s brand for interior and exterior construction color steel plates, which made its debut in 2011. 

Luxsteel, a combination of luxury and steel, is the industry’s first brand case of specialized products. 

Dongkuk Steel dedicated “S1CCL” at its Busan plant, specializing in the production of color steel plates in September. 

Dongkuk Steel is now poised to solidify its No.1 position in the color steel business by raising its color steel plate production capacity to 850,000 tons in 50 years since the steelmaker introduced a color steel plate on the market in 1972.

Vice Chairman Jang stressed an unmatched color steel plate business, saying, “Current three overseas production centers in Mexico, India and Thailand will be expanded to eight, including the ones in Americas, Europe and Southeast Asia and Australian by 2030.” 

Dongkuk Steel is predicted to post 1.4 trillion won in sales in the color steel plate business for the whole of year. The figure accounts for almost 20 percent of the steelmaker’s annual sales. 

Color steel plate products have been B2B items for construction materials and equipment and home appliances. B2C transactions are on the rise of late on the back of rising global interior demand. 

Dongkuk Steel plans to expand its product portfolio to products such as digital printing, anti-bacteria steel plate and Laminate with no decomposition for 20 years. 

The number of color steel plate products, made by Dongkuk Steel, has surged from about 3,000 kinds in 2011 to about 10,000. 

Dongkuk Steel aims to raise its color steel plate production capacity to 1 million tons to raise its sales to 2 trillion won, accounting for 30 percent of its annual total sales by 2030. 

The steel maker plans to conduct marketing activities on the brand Luxsteel, whose sales is expected to stand at 281,000 tons this year, via online and social network service channels. 

Vice Chairman Jang stressed sustainability of the process of producing color steel plates by introducing its eco-friendly color coating line (ECCL). 

ECCL is a process designed to minimize processes of glossing color steel plates and heating using fossil fuels. Dongkuk Steel plans to halve the consumption of liquefied natural gas by 2030.
