The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (MOTIE), Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Association of Korea Exhibition Association organized and hosted the 2021 Korea BuyKOREA Digital Trade Show from Dec. 1 to Dec. 15.

About 3,000 Korean SMEs, including domestic firms, export assistance firms and small businesses as well as about 5,000 foreign buyer companies participated in the largest-ever online marketing event. 

The 2021 Korea BuyKOREA Digital Trade Show was designed to help Korean companies boost exports in a global trade environment in which a non-face-to-face economy was invigorated due to the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. 

The fair proceeded in the order of: the production of digital content, exhibiting products online according to each item, and holding online one-on-one trade negotiation sessions with foreign buyers.

Digital content, such as videos on pitching products and electronic catalogs, essential for online marketing, had been produced with support by KOTRA from October, and they were displayed on the official website of the fair, which was linked with KOTRA¡¯s online B2B platform ¡°buyKOTRA.¡± 

Starting with an opening ceremony on Dec. 1, the fair got under way with Korean companies holding one-on-one online negotiations sessions with foreign buyers, explored by KOTRA¡¯s 127 overseas trade offices.

Specialized interpreters were posted for smoother negotiations between both sides, while participating companies held unboxing events and new product explanation events using famous influencers in foreign countries, such as China and Southeast Asian countries. 

These were designed to help Korean domestic demand firms, export assistance companies and small businesses make a pitch for their products abroad. 

The Digital Marketing Plaza Forum, the side event of the fair, took place at Seoul JW Marriott Hotel. Experts from KOTRA and several walks of society spoke about marketing strategies in the era of digital marketing, business models and corporate success examples. 

An international seminar on exhibition design trends and a job consultation fair, designed to lend a helping hand to the Korean exhibition apparatus industry, took place at Dongdaemun Design Plaza on Dec. 2. 


KOTRA President Yu Jeong-yeol said, ¡°The trade paradigm is undergoing digital shift fast in the wake of the pandemic.¡± 

KOTRA would do its best to provide support so that the 2021 Korea BuyKOREA Digital Trade Show can enable domestic demand firms, export assistance companies and small businesses to turn to digital shift and they can emerge as full-fledged exporters, he added.
