Korea Forestry Promotion Institute (KOFPI) shared success stories of the forest ¡°big data¡± platform by participating in ¡°Big Data Platform Meet-Up Day,¡± hosted by the National Information Society Agency (NIA) on Nov. 8.

Big Data Platform Meet-Up Day was an event to showcase 21 platforms, made under the Ministry of Science and IT¡¯s (MSIT) project to build big data platforms.

It coincided with a related seminar in which success stories of platforms were presented.

The forest big data platform has been recognized in several evaluations as an outstanding model of a project to build bid data platforms, such as winning an MSIT minister¡¯s prize and being designated as an outstanding big data platform institution.

The seminar was an opportunity to introduce the forest big data platform and outstanding cases.

Shinhan Bank made a presentation on the roles of data and utilization in an era of digital innovation, and Asan Medical Center in Seoul held a seminar on big data technology, policy and governance.

KOFPI President Lee Kang-oh said, ¡°KOFPI will be a leading data business institution to explore new data through connectivity among platforms in cooperation with MSIT and NIA and spearhead the data business through diverse big data projects in the future.¡±

KOFPI to Export Forest Machinery Equipment Worth $330 Million to 4 Asian Countries

Korea Forestry Promotion Institute (KOFPI) plans to export forest machinery equipment, including fire-fighting vehicles, worth a combined $330 million to four countries — Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam — in cooperation with the Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO).

KOFPI has implemented a project to support the exporting of forestry machinery equipment with state subsidies from the Korea Forest Service (KFS) to explore overseas market opportunities of the sagging forest machinery equipment industry, caused by the protracted COVID pandemic, since 2021.

KOFPI produced content products, such as ¡°E-Catalog, K-Wood,¡± a digital showroom, part of the project, and operated a booth to promote homegrown forest machinery equipment and held an exporting consulting meeting in cooperation with AFoCO during the 15th World Forestry Congress, which took place in Seoul in May.

KOFPI¡¯s on-site promotion of homegrown forest machinery equipment in cooperation with KFS and AFoCO on their outstanding quality, performance and safety in May has been evaluated to lead to export support.

AFoCO Secretary-General Ricardo L. Calderon was quoted as saying that AFoCO plans to implement diverse international forest collaboration projects to ramp up Asian member countries¡¯ capabilities to cope with climate change and sustainable forest management and demands close cooperation from KOPFI.

KOPFI President Lee said, ¡°KOPFI will aggressively explore efficient projects to offer support to exports to overcome an economic crisis of the Korean forest machinery equipment industry in cooperation with KFS.¡±
