SLC Becomes Five-Time Prize Winner at SIIF 2022

Sudokwon Landfill Site Corp. (SLC) won five prizes at the 2022 Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF 2022) - two gold, one silver, one bronze and WIPO’s special prize.

SIIF 2022, which took place at COEX in Seoul from Nov. 16 to Nov. 19, was hosted by Korea Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and Korea Intellectual Property Association (KIPA). Sixteen countries showcased 477 innovative inventions and patented technologies.

SLC displayed four patented products at SIIF 2022, including a technology to economically and effectively remove nitrogen and phosphorus in leachate, plus another technology to raise biogas production by a food wastewater treatment facility. Each took home the gold prize at SIIF 2022.

SLC’s technology to produce sulfur concrete using activated sludge, discharged by a landfill site, was honored with a silver prize, while a technology to replace high-priced materials of water stop layers of the landfill site with eco-friendly corn powder and fertilizers was presented with a bronze prize.

SLC received a special prize from the World Intellectual Property Office under the umbrella of the United Nations in recognition of its contribution to developing environmental technologies as a waste treatment institution at the fair.

Yeom Gyung-sup, head of SLC’s Resources Circulation Technology Research Institute, said, “Sudokwon Landfill Site’s evolving into an environment facility, envied by the world, is owed to endless R&D efforts, and I’m pleased to be recognized for the excellence and competitiveness of our technologies by receiving the awards.”

SLC Strikes MOU on Reducing Disposable Plastic

Member companies of the Incheon Public Entity Innovation Network, including SLC, Incheon International Airport Corp. and Incheon Port Authority, singed an MOU on a “Habit Eco Alliance” to reduce the use of disposable products with SK Telecom and Happy Connect on Nov. 23.

Habit Eco Alliance is a civilian alliance designed to solve abuse of disposable plastic, and about 60 organizations and companies, including the Ministry of Environment and Starbucks are members of the alliance.

SLC and other member companies of the Incheon Public Entity Innovation Network plan to conduct diverse resources circulation campaigns, including one of reducing disposable products.

Sudokwon Landfill Site Corp. (SLC) was honored with the National Assembly Environment, Employment and Labor Affairs Committee chairman’s award of the public relations & publication category.

The event occurred at the 2022 Korea Communication Grand Prize awards at Korea Press Center on Nov. 30.

The winning prize went to “The Story on 30-year-old Landfill Site,” a book published by SLC in celebration of the 30th anniversary.

The book contains 43 stories, including ones on 12 million won taken in lodge money, buried in the site, and site employees and neighborhood residents.
