NH NongHyup Financial Group announced on April 12 that it held the NH Open Business Day 2023 Event on April 11 at its headquarters in Jung-gu, Seoul.
The event was held to accelerate open innovation, such as business cooperation and investment, by disclosing the IR presentation demonstration day and various achievements of NH Digital Challenge+ companies, a customized fostering and collaboration program for startups, to NH NongHyup Financial Group affiliates, external investors, and partners.
In the beginning, starting with an opening speech by NH NongHyup Chairman Lee Seok-jun, presentations were made by NH Digital Challenge+’s 7th class and 8 alumni companies - MetaTexture, Uprise, Grade Health Chain, BridgeCode, Funble, Money Station, Blocko XYZ and Whatsup.
In the second part, which was a collaboration session, Lee Seok-yong, president of NongHyup Bank, delivered a welcome speech and shared major collaboration achievements with NongHyup affiliates in the banking, securities, insurance, mutual finance, and the Jeonbuk Ginseng Cooperative. MesaCure Company, SoftBerry and Crowdworks, selected through a proposal contest, also presented their proposals to NH NongHyup Financial Group employees.
“In line with the growing importance of open innovation, NH NongHyup Financial Group is also promoting the expansion of an open external collaboration ecosystem as one of its essential capabilities,” Lee said.
“We will actively utilize NongHyup’s strengths, national network that encompasses the financial and non-financial areas, and activate the NongHyup Financial Digital Strategic Investment Fund to become a startup facilitator that achieves a virtuous cycle of startup foundation, investment in startups, the growth of startups and reinvestment in other startups.”
2 Persons Recommended as Executive Candidates
NH NongHyup Financial Group held a meeting of the Executive Candidate Recommendation Committee on March 24 and recommended two candidates, Lee Jong-hwa (currently a professor of economics at Korea University in Seoul) and Lee Yoon-seok (currently the head of the Overseas Financial Cooperation Center at the Korea Finance Research Institute), as finalists for new independent directors.
The candidates will serve as independent directors of NongHyup Financial Group if they are officially selected as directors.
Lee Jong-hwa is currently a professor of economics at Korea University, and one of the world's leading scholars and experts in the field of economics and global finance. He earned M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in economics from Harvard University, served as an IMF economist and a World Bank advisor, chief economist of the Asian Development Bank, an international economic advisor to the Blue House and G20 Sherpa, and chairman of the Korea Economic Association.
Lee is the current head of the Overseas Financial Cooperation Center at the Korea Finance Research Institutes.
He has a broad range of knowledge and experience in economics and finance. He earned a master's and doctorate in economics from the University of Illinois and served as a member of the Korean Ministry of Trade and Industry's Self-Regulatory Review Committee, a board member of the International Economic Association, and a member of the Export-Import Bank’s Management Evaluation Committee.
“Both candidates are experts with deep insights and diverse experience in the fields of economics and finance and are expected to be of great help to NongHyup Financial Group by giving professional advice on accurate current situation analysis and future forecasting in the current unstable internal and external financial environments,” said an official of NongHyup Financial Group.
