Gangwon Forestry Expo 2023 Adopts Theme ‘Seeking Future of World and Mankind in Forest’

Gangwon Forestry Exhibition 2023 will be held at the main venue of Gangwon World Jamboree Center in Goseong-gun, Gangwon-do, and other areas in Goseong, Sokcho, Inje, and Yangyang for a 31-day run from Sept. 22 until Oct. 22.

The expo will take place under the theme: “Seeking the Future of the World and Mankind in the Forest.” The fair will consist of programs such exhibitions and academic events.

The expo will be hosted by the Gangwon-do provincial government, Goseong County, Sokcho City, Inje County, YangYang County, and organized by the Gangwon Forestry Exhibition Organizing Committee.

It is sponsored by Korea Forest Service, National Forestry Cooperative Federation, ICHNP, NongHyup Bank Gangwon Regional Division.

Exhibitions Halls will comprise of “Green Earth Hall,” “Peace & Forest Hall,” “Cultural Heritage Hall,” “Healing Hall,” and “Forestry Industry Hall.”

Official events will include a venue opening ceremony, an exhibition opening ceremony, and an exhibition closing ceremony.

The expo will coincide with performances, such as Arts & Forestry Music Concert, Forest Fringe & Healing U Festival, and Mime Performance.

It will also hold hands-on events, such as forestry/lumber culture activities, 1-day woodworking classes, and florist classes.

Sub-venue events will include DMZ Peace Exploration Tour in Goseong, Goseong Online Themed Stamp Tour; the Forest of Life” Expressed Through Lights and Sports Climbing Event in Sokcho; Mat. Baekdudaegan Mountain Range Forest Commentary Contest in Inje and Inje Forest Product Festival; and Woodworking Workshop for Families in the Forest of Healing, National Woodworking Contest in Yangyang.

The expo will coincide with academic events, such as ones on forestry preservation and ecosystem restoration, forests in an era of carbon neutrality and inter-Korean forest cooperation, cultural legacy of forest, and sustainable forests.

Gangwon Forestry Expo Strikes MOU with Korea Forestry Industry Association

The Gangwon Forestry Exhibition Organizing Committee held a ceremony to sign an MOU with Korea Forestry Industry Association, dubbed “Sansaram” for the support of the successful hosting of Gangwon Forestry Exhibition 2023 at the committee’s office on March 14.

Among those on hand at the event were about 30 people, including Executive Vice Chairman Kim Dong-il of the Gangwon Forestry Exhibition Organizing Committee, and Chairman Park Jung-hee of the Korea Forestry Industry Association.

The deal is designed to promote cooperation and support between the two institutions for the successful hosting of the expo during the expo period.

Both sides agreed to participate in a support committee of the expo, attend exhibitions and offer expertise consulting, cooperate in group tours, support online and off-line public activities and explore ways of cooperating for the development of the forest field.

Chairman Park of the Korea Forestry Industry Association said, “I, as one of those in the forest industry, am pleased to host the Korea Forestry Industry Association, such a first expo, to be held in the world under the topic of forest.”

Park said his association will actively participate and cooperate along with about 1,000 members by hosting the National Forest Businessmen’s Convention in conjunction with the expo for the successful hosting of the expo.

Executive Vice Chairman Kim of the expo committee, who was present on behalf of the committee’s chairman, said, “Participation by the Korea Forestry Industry Association with a nationwide network will be a great boon for the successful hosting of the expo.”
