Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) and the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) are inviting Korean sports startups to participate in the K-Sports Global Accelerating Project. The project is designed to raise Korean sports startups¡¯ capabilities to enter foreign markets.
KSPO is a manager of the Global Accelerating Support Project, which is in the sport convergence and health care filed, hosted by the Ministry of SMEs and Startups (MSS) and the Korea Institute of Startup & Entrepreneurship Development (KISED).
The Global Accelerating Support Project is in the sport convergence and health care filed, which makes its debut this year, in accordance with deals with Draper University, a U.S. startup education institute in Silicon Valley, the United States.
BetahausX of Germany, is also involved, which has built innovative communities across Europe. The project will offer support to Korean sports companies¡¯ entry to the U.S. and European markets.
Startups, less than seven years in business, wanting to enter overseas markets will be qualified for the project.
Ten startups will be selected each in the general-type category for the United States and the investment category for Europe. Applicants in the investment category should have a track record of investing overseas or achieving overseas sales.
Finalists will be entitled to receive a four-week specialization education course, being offered by KSPO until November, a four-week education course, being provided by overseas startup planners, a six-week, overseas local program related to the strengthening of global market entry capabilities and overseas investment and less than 15 million won in local stay costs.
Applications can be accepted until 3 p.m. on April 26, and they may be done over the website of K-startup (k-startup.or.kr). Beneficiaries will be announced in May through screening processes, such as qualification review, paper evaluation and presentation evaluation.
KSPO Chairman Cho Hyun-jae said, ¡°The project will serve as a good opportunity for both Korean sports companies and KSPO to expand their overseas network, and KSPO will be a strong supporter for Korean sports companies¡¯ continuous overseas market entry.¡±
KSPO Commissions Former National Women¡¯s Golf Contingent Coach Pak Se-ri
Korea Sports Promotion Foundation (KSPO) appointed golf star Pak Se-ri, an ex-national women¡¯s golf contingent coach to be an honorary ambassador.
KSPO held a ceremony to commission Pak at KSPO headquarters in Olympic Park in Songpa-gu, Seoul, on March 29, with KSPO Chairman Cho Hyun-jae and KSPO Executive Director Park Tae-young in attendance.
Pak will serve as KSPO¡¯s honorary ambassador for one year. She is expected to lead efforts to publicize KSPO¡¯s diverse projects, such as encouraging people¡¯s participation in sports, sport manpower and sport industry development.
Pak is a Korean former professional golf star with 25 wins LPGA Tour between 1998 to 2016. She was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 2007.
Pak said she was honored to become an honorary ambassador of KSPO, Korea¡¯s representative sports organization and she would lead activities to publicize KSPO¡¯s diverse projects on top of encouraging people¡¯s participation in sports.
KSPO Chairman Cho said, ¡°I¡¯ve very pleased to commission golf star Pak Se-ri as KSPO¡¯s honorary ambassador and KSPO will devote itself to promoting Korea¡¯s sports in cooperation with former national golf continent coach Pak down the road.¡±
Seoul Olympic Legacy Forum Selected as 2022 Public Sector Innovation Example by OECD
Seoul Olympic Legacy Forum, hosted by KSPO, was selected as one of the innovation examples in the public sector by the OECD.
The forum was held to have tangible and intangible legacies of the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics known to the world.
The OECD, which has operated OECD-OLPSI since 2013, has explored and shared the public sector¡¯s innovation cases, contributing to solving diverse social issues of each country of the world.
A combined 94 countries submitted 1,084 cases, but only three entries, including Seoul Olympic Legacy Forum, was selected as innovation examples by the OECD.
