Holds the 63rd Hope Hero Award Ceremony to give prizes to those who made a social contribution

Shinhan Financial Group announced that it had various discussions to promote sustainable finance in the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting of the United Nations Environment Program Finance Initiative (UNEP FI) held at the Conrad Hotel in Yeouido, Seoul.

The UNEP established the UNEP FI, its official subsidiary organization, in 1992 to strengthen the roles of private finance in sustainable development and a fight against climate change and since then, has held regional roundtables with the participation of member companies, regional experts, and governments. 

Shinhan Financial Group has been a member of the UNEP FI since 2008. 

In 2021, it was selected as a member of the Leadership Council, a council of CEOs of global financial institutions, for the first time in Korea in recognition of its various activities.

The event was the UNEP FI's first offline event in Korea since the outbreak of the pandemic, and was attended by the UNEP FI¡¯s domestic and international members, including HSBC and MUFG, the Bank of Korea, Green Climate Fund (GCF), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and Singapore Exchange (SGX). 

In addition to discussing regulatory issues such as strengthening public disclosures to promote sustainable finance, member companies and key participants discussed various sustainable finance initiatives tailored to the Asia-Pacific region, including climate change, biodiversity, and inclusive finance. 

¡°Not planning ESG activities but implementing them is the most important aspect in ESG management,¡± said Jin Ok-dong, chairman of Shinhan Financial Group. 

¡°Shinhan Financial Group will strive to raise people¡¯s interest in sustainable finance and strengthen its implementation in the Asia-Pacific region through various supports including the sponsorship of the UNEP.¡±


63rd Hope Hero Award Ceremony

Shinhan Financial Group announced on June 12 that it held the 63rd Hope Hero Award Ceremony with the Community Chest of Korea and Good Neighbors at Shinhan Bank¡¯s Southern Headquarters in Geumcheon-gu, Seoul.

As part of the Hope Society Project, Shinhan Financial Group¡¯s flagship social contribution program, Shinhan Financial Group has been selecting righteous citizens and organizations who have helped neighbors in crisis or dire need as Hope Heroes since 2018, leading the way in spreading a culture of sharing love and the influence of goodness. 

Park Han-ul and Jin Jin-yeon, who were selected as the 63rd Hope Heroes, recently conducted a music production project called ¡°Okay Light¡± to restore the self-esteem and healing of school bullying victims, despite their own past terrible bullying experiences.

A project proposal was made by Park Han-ul, CEO of a film production company and Jin Jin-yeon, a laughter therapist, all proceeds from the song will be used for the underprivileged. 

Lee Jin-ho, a Shinhan Bank official and Bae Gwang-ho, head of Good Neighbors¡¯ Business Operations, attended the ceremony and expressed their deep gratitude to Park and Jin, the 63rd Hope Heroes, by presenting the Hope Hero Award to them.

¡°Efforts made by these Hope Heroes to heal their wounds and give courage to those who suffered school bullying will serve as a positive example for our society,¡± a Shinhan Financial Group official said. 

¡°Shinhan Financial Group will continue to carry out various social contribution activities to empathize with our neighbors in need and give them words of encouragement.¡± 


Donation of Money to Install Air Conditioners at Children¡¯s Centers

Shinhan Financial Group announced on June 8 that it has donated 300 million won for the second year of the project after signing a business agreement with the Community Chest of Korea and the National Council of Community Children¡¯s Centers last year to support cooling and heating equipment for children¡¯s centers.

This year, in order to ease financial burdens on local children¡¯s centers nationwide due to high consumer prices and utility bills, Shinhan Financial Group replace will replace old air conditioning and heating equipment at 110 children¡¯s centers across the nation with high-efficiency air conditioning and heating equipment.

In addition, Shinhan Financial Group will cooperate with the two above-mentioned organizations to ensure the prompt replacement of cooling and heating equipment, including simplifying the application and selection processes for local children¡¯s centers in preparation for unexpectedly high temperature in early summer.
