KT displayed the latest optical communications technologies, such as optical internet parts, terminals and equipment pieces at the 2023 European Conference on Optical Communications (ECOC 2023) in Glasgow, UK, from Oct. 1 to Oct. 5.
ECOC 2023 is Europe’s biggest optical communications fair that brought together more than 350 optical communications parts, equipment makers and telecom service providers.
KT participated in ECOC 2023 along with SMEs as part of a project to support the verification of optical communications parts for intelligent information networks, being implemented by the Ministry of Science and ICT (MSIT) and the National Information Society Agency (NIA).
KT exhibited optical communication infrastructure installation cost efficiency equipment pieces, such as 1G/10G integrated optical communications system (Ubiquoss), long-distance, 1G/10G integrated transmission optical module (Fottu), PSTN integrated optical modem (N-Itus), and 100 QSFP28 PSM4 integrated optical module (Lightron).
The 1G/10G integrated optical communications system is a one optical interface device designed to simultaneously 1Gbps Giga internet and 10Gbps 10 Giga internet.
The installation of the system in part of the Giga internet allows the provision of 10 Giga internet.
The long-distance, 1G/10G integrated transmission optical module is a device designed to send and receive both 1Gbps and 10Gbps optical signals via one optical cable.
The device enables the use of 10Giga internet at a long distance without installing additional infrastructure by expanding the transmission distance from the conventional 20 km to 40 km.
The public switched telephone network (PSTN) integrated optical modem is a device designed to offer both wire telephone and high-speed internet services by integrating optical cables sans copper lines.
The conventional copper lines limit wire telephone services to 4 km, but the system allows the scope of the services up to 20 km.
The 100 QSFP28 PSM4 integrated optical module is a device designed to improve the speed and expandability of the conventional equipment.
The device increases the transmission speed of fronthaul, connecting distributed unit (DU) and radio unit (RU) of 5G access network.
As for expandability, the device can accommodate one 100Gbps interface and four 25Gbps RUs.
The device increases the integration of DU interface, making installation of facilities and equipment convenient.
KT sees that the exhibits on display are expected to simplify installation by integrating dispersed optical communications infrastructure and reduce the size of outdoor facilities, thus cutting infrastructure construction time and costs.

KT Holds Seminar on Marketing Digital Transformation
KT hosted a seminar on marketing digital transformation, targeting about 100 diverse company marketing officials, including ones from franchise firms, financial institutions and hospitals, on Oct. 16.
During the seminar, held at EL Tower in Yangjae-dong, Seoul, the latest advertising and publicities trends were introduced.
Starting with an introductory speech by Sung Won-jae, vice president of KT Gangnam Corporate Customers Headquarters, the seminar was followed by KT’s presenting of success stories on marketing digital transformation as well as introducing and demonstrating of “K-Ads,” KT’s target marketing service.
